On shareholding in LSC, future vision of LRT and VNT

Simon Boddy, Chairman of the Management Board of JSC Ventspils nafta (NASDAQ OMX RIGA: VNF1R) today announced that Ventspils nafta (VN) has no intention of increasing its shareholding in Latvian Shipping Company (NASDAQ OMX RIGA: LSC1R), which currently is 49.94%. He explained that it will not be done because even a few more shares would take VN over the 50% mark and require a mandatory offer to be made.
JSC Ventspils nafta also owns 66% of LatRosTrans which according to Boddy will not experience crude oil running through its pipes from Russia again which has nowadays many other routes to export its crude oil. Boddy’s vision is for LatRosTrans to empty and clean the oil pipeline and prepare it for transporting gas or clean EU quality products – thus getting it back into business. As for the other pipeline – LatRosTrans is intending to retain high level of diesel flow which so far has been ensured by Transneft and Vitol even though there is strong competition for Russian products from Black Sea and other Baltic ports.
Boddy also mentioned that despite the excellent and on-going efforts of LatRosTrans (LRT) security personnel and the Latvian police, every month hundreds tons of diesel are stolen from the LRT pipeline. That means for the state budget  lost income of millions of lats of taxes per year – because people who buy stolen diesel would otherwise have bought legal diesel.
Speaking on the future of Ventspils Nafta Terminals (VNT), Simon Boddy indicated that from the point of view of rationalisation and shared costs it would make perfect business sense to recombine VNT terminal with Ventbunkers, especially taking into account that Ventspils is facing serious new competition in the region from the Russian Ust-Luga terminal. There are no negotiations started to implement this,  stressed Simon Boddy, and reminded that is a vision and not a strategy yet.
VNT estimates that the 4th quarter results will be such that will allow for the net income of 2011 to be closer to the level of that in 2010.
