Hereby JSC Latvijas kuģniecība (Latvian Shipping Company - LASCO) informs that today, 18 July 2007, a festive naming and delivery ceremony of m/v Kazdanga, the third of in total four newbuildings ordered by LASCO in Korea, was held at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co. Ltd. Only a few days prior to the delivery of m/v Kazdanga, the launching of already seventh (out of ten) newbuilding m/v Piltene took place at 3.Maj shipyard in Croatia.
The middle of July 2007 is a remarkable time for LASCO, since it is within only 5 days that the whole two events closely connected with LASCO Fleet Renewal Programme implementation took place in the opposite parts of the world: the launching of the newly built tanker at 3.Maj, Croatia and the delivery of another newbuilding at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co. Ltd. in Korea.
It has become a tradition for LASCO to name its newbuildings after Latvian towns and regions. Also this time the newbuildings have been granted the euphonic names of Kazdanga and Piltene. The role of the ships’ Godmothers was entrusted to Ms. Biruta Konrāde and Ms. Olita Doniņa, representatives of, respectively, Kazdanga City Council and Piltene City Council.
Already eight newbuildings have been delivered to LASCO since summer 2006. At present JSC Latvijas kuģniecība fleet comprises 31 tankers, 2 LPG carriers, 5 reefer vessels and 1 Ro-Ro/general type vessel, as well as three tankers (Blue Star, Green Star and Maria M) time chartered in from other ship-owners.
