Lithuanian transmission system operator "Litgrid" plans to conduct an isolated operation test of the Lithuanian power grid on Saturday, April 22, during which the Lithuanian power grid will be disconnected from the BRELL synchronous zone for 10 hours, by disconnecting the power lines with Latvia, Belarus and Kaliningrad. Disconnected power lines will resume work after the test is completed. During the planned test, the electricity transmission systems of Latvia and Estonia will continue to operate synchronously with the systems of Russia and Belarus.

"Transmission system operators carry out major and minor inspections throughout the year to make sure that the power transmission systems are working and the processes in it are correct. In accordance with the common synchronization project plan, a joint test of the isolated operation of the Baltic power transmission systems will be carried out after the infrastructure and supporting systems designed to ensure the stability of power transmission have been put in operation. It is expected that the isolated operation test of the transmission system of the Baltic region will be carried out in 2025", explains Gatis Junghans, member of the board of JSC "Augstsprieguma tikls".

Currently, due to the spring floods and the large generation of the Daugava hydroelectric power plants, in Latvia more electricity is produced than is consumed and the electricity is exported to neighboring countries. During the test both Estlink-1 and Estlink-2 interconnections between Estonia and Finland will be available ensuring sufficient interconnection capacity and electricity market will not be affected.

Test of the Lithuanian power grid will not reduce the quality of power supply to Latvian consumers.
