In 6 months of 2008, the Joint Stock Company “Latvijas Gāze” sold to consumers 857.3 million m3 of natural gas. In the respective period of 2007, 944.7 million nm3 were sold.

The decrease in natural gas consumption in 6 months of 2008 is related to the atypically high air temperature in the 1st quarter of 2008.

In 6 months of 2008, consumers were sold natural gas and provided services for 163.6 million LVL. In the respective period of 2007, consumers were sold natural gas and provided services for 110.7 million LVL.

The JSC “Latvijas Gāze” completed 6 months of 2008 with a profit of 0.6 million LVL, which is by 90% less than in the respective period of 2007 when the profit amounted to 6.5 million LVL.

Within the framework of the capital investment programme, 10.3 million LVL have been utilized in 6 months of 2008. The funds of investment have been mostly used for modernization of technological equipment and construction of new gas pipelines.

If the Public Utility Commission approves the tariffs for enforcement from September 1, 2008, during the period from May thru September there are uncovered expenses anticipated for the JSC “Latvijas Gāze” at the amount of 16 million LVL. Since May when customers began receiving gas directly from Russia instead of the Inčukalns Underground Gas Storage Facility, the JSC “Latvijas Gāze” pays for it in compliance with the provisions of the new contract with “Gazprom”, but the natural gas trade tariffs do not cover this purchase price. The JSC “Latvijas Gāze” requested an increase of tariffs from July 1.

The JSC “Latvijas Gāze” has announced a closed price survey for granting of a credit line at the amount of 50 million EUR that are envisaged for settlements with suppliers for natural gas supplied in summer.
