Riga Shipyard Engaging in Major Renovation of Three Ships

The joint stock company Riga Shipyard (RKB) finished renovations of a large ship, the Pyxis Loucas, last week, and currently the shipyard is renovating three other high-tonnage ships – the Ridgebury Rosemary E, the EM ITHAKI, and the Nova Florida.

The Ridgebury Rosemary E tanker is registered in the Marshall Islands.  It’s 183 metres long, 32.2 metres wide and with a draught of 13 metres.

The EM ITHAKI container ship, which is also being renovated at the Rīga Shipyard at this time, is registered in Monrovia, Liberia.  The head of renovations at RKB, Nikolajs Samonovs:  “Right now I am working with my colleague, project director Aleksejs Grigorjevs, on renovating cables on the Greek ship EM ITHAKI.  This is a very complicated task.  The shape of the ship has made it complicated to berth it at the dock where the EM ITHAKI is being renovated and repainted.”

Both professionals have a great deal of experience, and RKB is convinced that the complex work will be completed faultlessly and that the quality of the teamwork will be excellent.

As far as the third ship, the Nova Florida, is concerned, more than 30,000 kilograms of steel structures in ballast and fuel tanks were replaced over the course of just five days.  That is a much larger amount of steel than has been the case with other ships that the company has renovated this year.

The next two ships that are expected to arrive at the RKB in the near future are the bulk cargo ship the UBC Toronto and the tanker ArcticFlounder.

RKB actively takes part in bids for tender that relate to the renovation of ships, and it is already aware of the ships that will arrive at the dock over the next month.
